**Company Overview**

Founded in November 2025 by Jeff Bezos and Vik Bajaj, Prometheus (formerly Project Prometheus) is a San Francisco-based AI startup with additional offices in London and Zurich. Bezos serves as co-CEO alongside Bajaj, a chemist and physicist formerly of Google X and co-founder of Alphabet's life sciences research lab Verily.

The company is building what it calls an "artificial general engineer": AI systems designed to automate the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of complex physical products, from jet engines to semiconductors to drug compounds. Bezos has described it as a modern, AI-driven evolution of computer-aided design software. The company has stated it has no connection to robotics and no corporate ties to Amazon or Blue Origin. As of its most recent funding round, Prometheus employs roughly 150 people, including researchers hired from xAI, Meta, OpenAI, and DeepMind.

**The Problem**

Designing and manufacturing complex physical systems, such as jet engines or chips, typically takes engineering teams a decade or more from concept to production. Existing design software (CAD and related tools) does not natively integrate AI-driven optimisation across the full design-to-manufacturing pipeline. Physical-world AI systems face a data problem: there is no readily available "internet of manufacturing data" comparable to the text and image datasets that trained large language models.

**The Solution**

Prometheus is building AI tools intended to compress the design-to-manufacturing cycle for physical products, aiming to formulate even highly complex engineering problems, such as jet engine design, as an end-to-end AI process. The company has acknowledged it must generate specialised training data itself rather than rely on existing internet-scale datasets, given the absence of large manufacturing datasets. It has expanded its technical base through the acquisition of General Agents, a startup building agentic AI systems that translate visual input into real-world actions via video-language-action models.

**Market Opportunity**

Investor interest in "physical AI", AI applied to real-world, physical tasks rather than purely digital ones, has grown rapidly, with venture capital increasingly favouring the sector on the view that the physical world creates defensive moats that pure software cannot replicate. Prometheus sits alongside a small group of well-funded physical-AI ventures, including Fei-Fei Li's World Labs, Yann LeCun's AMI Labs, and Physical Intelligence. Bezos has also floated raising a separate, reportedly up to \$100 billion, holding vehicle to acquire industrial companies that could both supply Prometheus with training data and adopt its tools; this has been reported by outlets including the Financial Times but has not been confirmed by the company as final.

**Traction & Validation**

Series A: \$6.2 billion raised at launch in November 2025, with Bezos as the largest individual backer.

Series B: $12 billion raised in June 2026, valuing the company at approximately $41 billion. Investors in this round included JPMorgan, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, DST Global, and Arch Venture Partners, alongside continued participation from Bezos.

Acquisition: Prometheus acquired General Agents shortly after launch to strengthen its agentic AI capabilities.

No product, customer, or revenue has been publicly disclosed. Bezos has stated it remains "premature" to share what the company has built.

**Intellectual Property & Strategic Assets**

Proprietary technology from the General Agents acquisition, focused on translating visual input into physical-world actions. A technical team drawn from leading AI labs including xAI, Meta, OpenAI, and DeepMind. Capital intensity itself functions as a strategic asset here: the company has stated its compute and specialised training-data costs are substantial, and its funding to date positions it to outspend most competitors in the physical-AI category.

**Business Model & Financial Highlights**

No business model, pricing, or revenue has been publicly disclosed. The company has declined to give a product timeline. Any commercial model would reportedly extend to compute partnerships, citing hyperscalers, including Amazon, as plausible future customers of its tools once available.
