Anthropic Transfers Agent Skills Standard to AI Foundation

Anthropic is transferring the Agent Skills name, logo, GitHub organisation and domain to the Agentic AI Foundation.

Anthropic announced on October 22, 2026 that it is donating the Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation, which operates under the Linux Foundation.

Skills package instructions and supporting material that software agents can load for particular tasks. Anthropic developed the format while working on Claude Code and published it as an open standard in December 2025.

Okay News reports that the transfer covers the Agent Skills name and logo, its GitHub organisation and the agentskills.io domain.

Anthropic said developers can continue using the standard and contributing to it without joining the foundation. Engineers from several companies will maintain it as individuals, with David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag serving as lead maintainers.

The proposed roadmap includes versioned releases, a formal process for changes and security guidance for people who write or install skills.
