'Dario Is Right': Elon Musk, Sam Altman Back Anthropic CEO's Call To 'Slow Down' AI Development

Anthropic boss Dario Amodei had raised alarms about the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on the modern world, while also acknowledging its contributions

OpenAI chief Sam Altman and xAI boss Elon Musk voiced their support for Anthropic boss Dario Amodei's argument that there is a need to "slow down" the development of artificial intelligence.

In a post on X, Altman wrote: "I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we've had at OpenAI in recent weeks."

"Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We'll have more to share soon".

Elon Musk, the chief of xAI and Tesla, wrote: "Dario is right".

In a separate post, the xAI chief re-shared an old post of his, in which he had raised concerns about the rapid development of artificial intelligence, suggesting it was "significantly higher risk than nuclear weapons".

"I've been sounding the alarm on AI for a long time", Musk wrote.

'We Must Slow The Pace'

In a post on his personal website, Dario raised alarms about the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on the modern world. While he acknowledged the contributions of artificial intelligence in various sectors, he argued that it brings "serious risks".

"They include the risk of losing control of AI systems, misuse of AI for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and serious economic disruption".

He argued that building AI "too fast" is "reckless", while also suggesting that not developing the technology "deprives humanity of benefits or simply places AI in the hands of authoritarian powers".

"We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain", Dario argued.

His comments came days after AI researcher Jacob Coxon, who left OpenAI to join Anthropic, decided to leave the industry. He accused both companies of "gambling with our lives" in the race to build models capable of self-improvement.
