Anthropic has formally announced its new AI model, Mythos Preview, on Tuesday, alongside the creation of an industry consortium called Project Glasswing aimed at addressing cybersecurity risks associated with advanced AI systems.
Project Glasswing brings together more than 50 organizations, including Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT), Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC), Google, Amazon Web Services, the Linux Foundation, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO, XETRA:CIS), Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, XETRA:NVD), Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO, XETRA:1YD), and others from the tech, cybersecurity, financial, and critical infrastructure sectors. Participants will receive private access to Mythos Preview, which is not yet available to the general public.
According to Anthropic, the initiative allows participating organizations to test Mythos Preview on their systems, identify potential vulnerabilities, and develop mitigations before the model is more widely deployed. The company noted that the effort is part of a broader response to rapid advancements in AI capabilities, which may significantly impact software security and digital defense practices.
The company is also committing up to $100 million in usage credits for Mythos Preview and $4 million in direct donations to open-source security organizations to support these efforts.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei described Mythos Preview as a significant step forward. While the model was trained primarily for coding tasks, it has demonstrated strong cybersecurity capabilities, including vulnerability discovery, penetration testing, and exploit development.
From a market perspective, Jefferies noted that Anthropic's pre-release of Mythos to enterprise partners signals a partnership-oriented approach rather than direct competition in cybersecurity.
The firm described the initiative as "indicative of inflection in the threat environment" and said it could disproportionately benefit platforms like Palo Alto Networks Inc (NYSE:PANW, XETRA:5AP) and CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD).
Jefferies added that the program underscores the urgency for enterprises to strengthen security defenses in response to rapidly advancing AI capabilities.
