An 'indefinite' staff strike at a major Spanish airport in Mallorca has seen severe delays for Brit tourists.
Travellers looking to jet away to Palma ahead of the Easter bank holiday have landed into chaos this week as staff strikes enters its second day today (Tuesday, March 31).
Local media reports handling staff went on strike on Monday, with unions CCOO, UGT and USO calling for the industrial action to last indefinitely. According to Majorca Daily Bulletin, Groundforce ground staff are striking across three different time slots and at 12 airports where the company operates, including Palma.
The strike periods are scheduled for 5am until 7am, 11am until 5pm, and 10pm until midnight each day.
As many as 12 flights were delayed by midday today, with eight scheduled to depart and four arriving into the Spanish hotspot, according to airport sources.
Around 800,000 people are anticipated to pass through the airport over the Easter holidays, with tourists warned to expect delays as a result of the industrial action.
