Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey also stressed the need to take this new AI development seriously. He said, "We are having to look very carefully now what this latest AI development could mean for the risk of cyber crime." Bailey warned that advanced AI modeling could make it easier for cyber criminals to detect and exploit vulnerabilities in core IT systems.

The US Treasury has also flagged the issue with major banks, urging them to test their systems before the public release of Mythos by Anthropic. Financial industry sources suggest another leading US AI company may soon launch a similar powerful model without these safeguards. James Wise, chair of the Sovereign AI unit and partner at Balderton Capital, said Mythos is "the first of what will be many more powerful models" that can expose systems' vulnerabilities.
