Emergency crews are responding to a serious crash involving a car and motorbike in Perth's east.

The crash is causing heavy congestion for southbound traffic on Tonkin Highway at Great Eastern Highway in Bayswater.

Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid the area. The right lane is closed.

Police, St John Ambulance and towing services are on the scene.
