Google, OpenAI Rally Behind Open-Weight AI Initiative

He said DeepMind has consistently supported open science through projects including JAX, Transformers, AlphaFold and Gemma, adding that Gemma models have been downloaded more than 300 million times.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk later shared Zuckerberg's post, commenting, "Overwhelming support for open source."

AMD also backed the initiative, saying open standards, interoperability and customer choice remain central to building a strong AI ecosystem.

Despite the expanding coalition, Anthropic and Amazon remain absent from both the original and updated versions of the letter.
