Exclusive-Nvidia in talks to invest in Anthropic's mega IPO, sources say
Sept 11 (Reuters) - Anthropic is in talks to bring Nvidia as an anchor investor into what could be the largest IPO in history, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters. Anthropic is seeking to raise as much as $100 billion that could value the artificial intelligence startup at around $2 trillion, the people said. Nvidia is considering investing up to $10 billion in the IPO, one of the sources added. The plans remain under discussion and could change, they cautioned, requesting anonymity because the discussions are confidential. Nvidia's potential involvement in the IPO, which has not previously been reported, would give Anthropic an early strategic backer for theoutsized offering, while further deepening ties between the chipmaker and one of its major customers. Bringing a deep-pocketed anchor investor like Nvidia onboard could boost investor confidence in the listing, which is shaping up to be a major test of public-market appetite for the enormous valuations and capital requirements of frontier AI labs. Anthropic declined to comment. Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Anchor investors are typically institutional investors that commit to buy a set portion of an IPO before it is marketed more broadly, providing an early vote of confidence in the shares. It is increasingly common for mega IPOs to line up early institutional commitments, given the large amounts they seek to raise. Chip designer Arm's anchor investors included Nvidia and Amazon, while Saudi Arabia's PIF was among SpaceX's anchor investors. The deepened relationship highlights the complex ties between AI model developers and the companies supplying the enormous amounts of computing power they require. Anthropic relies heavily on Nvidia GPUs, while also seeking to diversify its chip suppliers as demand for Claude has strained its available computing capacity. In November 2025, Nvidia said it would invest up to $10 billion in the AI startup as part of a broader partnership under which Anthropic committed to buy $30 billion of Microsoft Azure computing capacity powered by Nvidia chips. Anthropic already counts the biggest tech companies in the world as backers. These include Amazon and Google, who are also its major compute suppliers. In April, Anthropic said it would commit more than $100 billion over a decade to Amazon's AWS, while using more than 1 million of Amazon's Trainium2 chips. It has also agreed with Google and Broadcom to add multiple gigawatts of TPU capacity. The company has been trying to access more compute as its revenue has surged. It is also working to gain greater control over its hardware costs by forming an in-house team to design custom chips tailored to Claude. The listing, which is expected to complete before the U.S. midtermelectionsin November,would mark another jump in Anthropic's valuation. The Claude maker raised $65 billion in May at a post-money valuation of $965 billion. Its annualized revenue run rate had climbed above $65 billion by the end of July, from about $9 billion at the end of 2025, according to the company. The potential valuation also hinges in part on company projections of roughly $190 billion to $200 billion in revenue in 2028, Reuters previously reported. Anthropic gives EU access to Mythos months after model's release
Anthropic PBC has handed the European Union (EU)'s cybersecurity agency access to its powerful Mythos artificial intelligence (AI) model, more than three months after first signalling the bloc would be given access. "Following our constructive engagement with Anthropic, we can confirm that the EU's cybersecurity agency ENISA has been granted access to Mythos 5 and is testing it now," Thomas Regnier, a spokesperson for the EU's executive branch, the European Commission, said in an email. A representative for Anthropic declined to comment. Anthropic first previewed Mythos in April. The model is so powerful at uncovering cybersecurity flaws that the company limited access to a select group of vetted institutions to root out and patch vulnerabilities before bad actors exploit them under its Project Glasswing initiative. Access to sophisticated models is becoming increasingly critical after a series of incidents in which AI has broken out of testing environments and hacked third-party systems. OpenAI revealed last month that AI agents coordinated on undetected message boards for months before hacking research platform Hugging Face Inc. Anthropic said in July its models had hacked three organisations. After lobbying from the EU, Anthropic proposed allowing the European cybersecurity body ENISA access to the model in late May. But that kicked off months of wrangling over the type and scope of ENISA's access. Those negotiations were further complicated by the White House restricting foreign access to Mythos and another powerful Anthropic model, Fable. It later eased those restrictions, though foreign institutions' access to Mythos remained in limbo. Despite the successful negotiations, the EU's achievement is only partial, as ENISA will not have access to the model's latest iteration, Mythos 5.1, the commission spokesperson said. Exclusive-Anthropic IPO launch shifts toward mid-October, sources say
Sept 4 - Anthropic is expected to begin marketing its initial public offering in mid-October at the earliest and complete the listingdays before the U.S. midterm elections in November, people familiar with the matter said on Friday. The artificial intelligence company had been expected to make its IPO prospectus public as early as next week, two of the people said, a crucial step that would kick off the final stages of the offering. Now that is not expected until late September, the people added, cautioning that the plans, including the timing, are subject to change. The shift pushes back what someinvestors have said could be a $2 trillion listing, one of the largestIPOs ever attempted and a major test of public-market appetite for the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry. Companies frequently adjust their IPO schedules as they work through market conditions, regulatory reviews and other preparations, so such changes are not unusual. As part of the IPO process, Anthropic is looking to finalize a $15 billion revolving credit facility, after which analysts, including those at banks involved in the financing, are expected to meet with the company, one of the people said. Bloomberg News earlier reported that Anthropic was in talks to expand the facility to $15 billion. Companies typically leave a few weeks between analyst meetings and making the IPO prospectus public, althoughAnthropic is expected to have a tighter window because analysts already know the company well, the person said. Anthropic signs $35 billion cloud deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda, source says
Aug 31 (Reuters) - Anthropic has signed a cloud-computing deal worth $35 billion with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday. The deal will bring online Nvidia capacity to meet growing demand for Anthropic's Claude AI, the source said. The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. US judge blocks Pentagon's Anthropic blacklisting
August 27(Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Thursday blocked the Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic, the latest turn in the Claude maker's high-stakes fight with the military over AI safety on the battlefield. Anthropic's lawsuit in California federal court alleges that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth overstepped his authority when he designated Anthropic a national security supply-chain risk, a label the government can apply to companies that expose military systems to potential infiltration or sabotage by adversaries. Hegseth's unprecedented move, which followed Anthropic's refusal to allow the military to use AI chatbot Claude for U.S. surveillance or autonomous weapons, blocked Anthropic from certain military contracts. Anthropic executives have said it could cost the company billions of dollars in lost business and reputational harm. Anthropic says that AI models are not reliable enough to be safely used in autonomous weapons and that it opposes domestic surveillance as a violation of rights, but the Pentagon says private companies should not be able to constrain military action. U.S. District Judge Rita Lin, an appointee of former Democratic President Joe Biden, made the ruling in a 59-page order where she found that the Pentagon's decision was "illegal and baseless." "The empty invocation of national security is not a blank check to punish and retaliate against government critics," she wrote. Anthropic's designation was the first time a U.S. company has been publicly designated a supply-chain risk under an obscure government-procurement statute aimed at protecting military systems from foreign sabotage. In its March 9 lawsuit, Anthropic alleged the government violated its right to free speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution by retaliating against its views on AI safety. The company said it was not given a chance to dispute the designation, in violation of its Fifth Amendment right to due process. The lawsuit says the decision was unlawful, unsupported by facts and inconsistent with the military's past praise of Claude. The Justice Department countered that Anthropic's refusal to lift the restrictions could cause uncertainty in the Pentagon over how it could use Claude and risk disabling military systems during operations, according to a court filing. The government said the designation stemmed from Anthropic's refusal to accept contractual terms, not its views on AI safety. Anthropic has a second lawsuitpending in Washington, D.C., over a separate Pentagon supply-chain risk designation that could lead to its exclusion from civilian government contracts. Brazil sues Discord for $97 million over alleged failures to protect children
BRASILIA, Aug 26 (Reuters) - The Brazilian government said on Wednesday it has sued chat platform Discord, seeking 500 million reais ($97 million) through a civil collective moral damages lawsuit as it accuses the firm of failing to comply with laws protecting children and teens. The lawsuit requests Discord to bring safety mechanisms, age-verification systems, parental supervision tools, content moderation practices and communication features into compliance, subject to a daily fine of 500,000 reais ($97,099). The lawsuit before a federal court comes after the country's data protection authority ANPD suspended Discord's livestreaming features earlier this month over child and teens safety concerns. In a statement, Discord said the lawsuit is disproportionate and does not accurately reflect the company's stance regarding safety and compliance with the Brazilian law. Discord added it has presented the office of Brazil's solicitor general with a proposal to improve the safety of its operations in the country through technical adjustments and a financial investment. The government's Solicitor General Jorge Messias told reporters that Discord did not move forward with an agreement with authorities, which would have required the platform to formally commit to bringing its operations into compliance with the law, he added. Anthropic to rent AI computing power from Nscale for $45 billion, source says
Aug 26 (Reuters) - Anthropic will spend $45 billion to rent AI cloud computing power from Nscale's West Virginia data center campus, a person familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. The move comes as the AI startup looks to secure capacity to meet an anticipated surge in demand for products such as its AI coding tool, Claude Code. Nscale, a cloud infrastructure provider, will deploy Nvidia's new Vera Rubin chips to support Anthropic's computing needs, the person said. The six-year agreement represents about 460 megawatts of power capacity. Anthropic has moved aggressively in recent months to overcome capacity constraints for its services. It agreed in May to rent the full computing power of SpaceX's Colossus 1 facility in Memphis, which houses more than 220,000 Nvidia processors and 300 megawatts of new capacity.
