Sources: the UK has stepped up its efforts to get Anthropic to expand in the country, including a dual listing proposal, after Anthropic's clash with the US DOD

like I've said a few times, well within TOS to do this, they built the model, if they wanna give you inference at pennies on the dollar on the condition that you use their harness, great, they have the right to do this. On this topic in particular, I don't understand the "evil" or "rugpull", jeers. There was never any promise to give people cheap inference. Before the claude code max plan we were all paying per token to use this stuff. And we're more or less happy to do it (sure the VC funding helps).

'Death markets!' U.S lawmaker slams Polymarket bets on lost U.S soldiers in Iran

Polymarket is under scrutiny for supporting markets that speculate on deaths. On Friday, U.S. House representative and senatorial aspirant Seth Moulton (D-MA) lashed out at the prediction site for encouraging "disgusting death markets." There is an ongoing search and rescue operation for a missing American service member whose plane was shot down over Iran. Their safety is unknown. They could be your neighbor, a friend, a family member. And people are betting on whether or not they'll be saved. He also criticized President Donald Trump for benefiting from the "death markets," claiming his access to classified intelligence. Quick reminder too that Donald Trump is an investor in this dystopian death market and may have access to intelligence that isn't public yet. Polymarket quickly archived the market, stating that it did not meet its "integrity standards." The firm clarified that it was investigating how the market "slipped through its internal safeguards." Well, this wasn't the first time Polymarket or prediction markets have faced scrutiny over such markets. In fact, many traders reportedly benefited from Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, killed during U.S. and Israeli attacks. In fact, on Polymarket, an account made over $460K in profits trading contracts related to Iran strikes and Khamenei's ouster. On-chain analytics firm Bubblemaps estimated that 12 insiders made over $1.2 million from the Iran strikes and the subsequent death of its former leader. Most of the wallets were funded 24 hours before and bought the "US strikes Iran by February 28, 2026" contract hours before it happened. Reacting to the raging 'death markets' and alleged insiders, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) slammed, It's insane this is legal. People around Trump are profiting off war and death. I'm introducing legislation ASAP to ban this. Kalshi, another prediction site, also faced similar scrutiny and a class lawsuit after it failed to pay $54M to traders betting on Khamenei's ouster. Overall, prediction markets have become a multi-billion-dollar segment as speculation interest surges across sports, politics, and other sectors. That said, apart from the rising ethical questions, the fight between the CFTC and states on who should oversee prediction markets could also stifle the sector's growth in the U.S.

Britain Entices AI Firm Anthropic Amid U.S.-UK Tug of War | Law-Order

Britain is attempting to persuade AI company Anthropic to increase its operations in the UK. This comes amidst a dispute with the U.S. Defense Department over the AI app Claude. The UK plans to offer various incentives, including a dual stock listing, as Anthropic faces legal challenges in the U.S. Britain is making efforts to lure artificial intelligence firm Anthropic to expand its presence in the country, as reported by the Financial Times on Sunday. The move is part of a broader strategy to exploit tensions between Anthropic, the developer of AI application Claude, and the U.S. Defense Department. According to sources familiar with the plans, the British government is considering proposals that range from expanding Anthropic's office in London to offering a dual stock listing. Inquiries made by Reuters to Anthropic and the UK's Department of Science, Innovation and Technology were not immediately answered. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office supports these initiatives, which will be presented to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei in late May. This follows the U.S. government's decision to blacklist Anthropic over concerns related to national security, a decision that is currently under judicial review.

Stalled robotaxis cause traffic chaos in China

A "system failure" caused the Baidu-operated robotaxi to stall in traffic in Wuhan, China. The stuck robotaxi blocked traffic and created congestion on busy city roads. #cnn #wuhan #baidu #robotaxi What Are The Main Benefits Of Comparing Car Insurance Quotes Online LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 24, 2020, / Compare-autoinsurance.Org has launched a new blog post that presents the main benefits of comparing multiple car insurance quotes. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier. Anthropic Pulls OpenClaw Support After Leak Sparks Bigger Questions

Boris Cherny, who heads Cloud Code at Anthropic, confirmed the change in a post on X, making it clear that this is a structural shift, not a temporary tweak. "Starting tomorrow at 12pm PT, Claude subscriptions will no longer cover usage on third-party tools like OpenClaw." The reasoning, according to the company, comes down to scale. Demand for Claude has been rising fast, and the way third-party tools consume resources doesn't align with how subscriptions were originally designed. "We've been working hard to meet the increase in demand for Claude, and our subscriptions weren't built for the usage patterns of these third-party tools." He added: "Capacity is a resource we manage thoughtfully, and we are prioritising our customers using our products and API." In short, Anthropic is prioritising direct users over those accessing the system through external layers. What Changes For Users For existing subscribers, Anthropic says it will issue a one-time credit equivalent to their monthly plan. After that, access to tools like OpenClaw won't disappear completely -- but it will no longer be bundled in. Users can still continue using such tools, but only through additional paid usage bundles or by switching to API-based access. "You can still use these tools with your Claude login via extra usage bundles... or with a Claude API key." That effectively shifts third-party usage from an included feature to a paid add-on. OpenClaw Creator Pushes Back The decision hasn't gone down well with everyone -- especially those building in the open ecosystem. Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, publicly criticised the move, suggesting it reflects a broader pattern. "Funny how timings match up, first they copy some popular features into their closed harness, then they lock out open source." He also hinted at the impact this could have on adoption: "We have many users who only signed up... because of OpenClaw." That highlights just how closely tools like OpenClaw were tied to Anthropic's growth among developers. A Bigger Pattern Emerging This isn't the first time Anthropic has tightened access. Recently, it also reduced Cloud session limits, restricting how often users could run sessions and how many tokens they could use during peak hours. Taken together, these changes point to a clear direction: the company is trying to control infrastructure strain while scaling demand. ALSO READ: Microsoft Launches MAI AI Suite With Big Claims On Speed And Accuracy: What Is It? There's also a broader industry angle here. OpenClaw, which launched in November 2025, quickly gained traction as an open-source AI agent, even raising concerns among enterprise security teams. Adding another twist, Steinberger joined OpenAI earlier this year, putting him on the other side of an increasingly competitive AI ecosystem. Right now, this doesn't feel like just a policy update. It feels like part of a bigger shift, one where AI companies are slowly drawing stricter boundaries between open experimentation and controlled, monetised platforms.

'First they copy...' OpenClaw creator hits back at Anthropic policy charging extra for third-party use

Claude Code subscribers may soon have to pay more to continue using Anthropic's AI coding assistant with OpenClaw and other third-party tools. The AI startup has rolled out a new policy where subscribers will "no longer be able to use your Claude subscription limits for third-party harnesses including OpenClaw." Instead, they will need to pay for extra usage through "a pay-as-you-go option billed separately from your subscription," the AI startup reportedly wrote in emails sent to customers that were posted on Hacker News on Sunday, April 4. While it is starting with OpenClaw today, the policy "applies to all third-party harnesses and will be rolled out to more shortly," Anthropic further said. The development was confirmed by Boris Cherny, Anthropic's head of Claude Code. "We've been working hard to meet the increase in demand for Claude, and our subscriptions weren't built for the usage patterns of these third-party tools. Capacity is a resource we manage thoughtfully and we are prioritizing our customers using our products and API," Cherny wrote in a post on X. "We want to be intentional in managing our growth to continue to serve our customers sustainably long-term. This change is a step toward that," he added. The announcement comes as LLM-powered AI agents gain momentum, fueled in part by the popularity of OpenClaw which is an open-source, agentic AI framework that lets developers orchestrate autonomous agents in structured flows. Amid growing buzz around OpenClaw, Anthropic has moved quickly to roll out its own alternatives, unleashing a wave of new features and upgrades across Claude. Last month, Anthropic unveiled Claude's new computer-use capabilities that allow the chatbot to handle tasks such as locating and sending files directly from a user's hard drive by sending a prompt in the Claude app on their phone. Anthropic's competitive posture also arrives in the backdrop of Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, joining rival OpenAI. It previously sent a cease-and-desist letter to Steinberger over the original OpenClaw project name 'Clawd'. Story continues below this ad Also Read | Anthropic's Claude can now use your computer like a human: Will it replace OpenClaw? Commenting on Anthropic's new policy barring OpenClaw usage within subscription limits, Steinberger said that he and OpenClaw board member Dave Morin "tried to talk sense into Anthropic" but were only able to delay the increased pricing by a week. "Funny how timings match up, first they copy some popular features into their closed harness, then they lock out open source," Steinberger said. Cherny, however, said that Claude Code team members are "big fans of open source" and that he himself "just put up a few [pull requests] to improve prompt cache efficiency for OpenClaw specifically." "This is more about engineering constraints. We know not everyone realized this isn't something we support, and this is an attempt to make it clear and explicit," he said, adding that Anthropic is still offering full refunds for subscribers.

Brighton Seafront Braces for Traffic Chaos This Easter Sunday

Two of Brighton's biggest city centre car parks will shut their gates this Easter Sunday, sparking fears of gridlock across the seafront and surrounding roads. Churchill Square dropped a bombshell late on Saturday: "Due to emergency maintenance works, both car parks (Red Car Park and Green Car Park) will be closed from Saturday 4th April 10pm and throughout Easter Sunday." This closure hits smack in the middle of one of the busiest weekends of the year, with thousands flocking to Brighton's coast for the holiday. With very limited alternative parking options nearby, clueless drivers could make traffic nightmares even worse. Expect major tailbacks along the seafront, surrounding streets, and key city entry points as desperate motorists hunt down scarce parking or face forced diversions. With warm weather on the cards and holiday crowds swelling, Brighton faces a bumper Easter weekend -- and trouble on the roads is all but guaranteed. Drivers are advised to think twice before hitting the road, seek alternatives, and brace for delays while the city's two biggest car parks stay closed. Britain braces for potentially record-breaking April storm as meteorologists warn of 90mph Easter weekend chaos

Storm Dave Set to Slam Britain with Record-Breaking April Gales Brace yourselves! Storm Dave is barreling towards Britain this weekend, poised to become one of the fiercest April storms on record. An unusually strong jet stream is driving a powerful low-pressure system across the Atlantic, threatening to batter northern Britain with devastating winds. Met Office Issues Severe Wind Warnings Ahead of Weekend Onslaught The Met Office has issued warnings for damaging winds across northern Britain ahead of Saturday afternoon's blast. Forecasters warn this storm could break April's pressure record of around 961 millibars, making it a rare and dangerous beast for this time of year. "This looks like a very deep area of low pressure, particularly for the time of year," said Met Office expert Alex Burkill. "Saturday will bring very strong winds, especially in the northwest, and conditions could turn quite stormy into Sunday." Explosive Cyclogenesis to Fuel Fierce Winds and Torrential Rain The storm is undergoing explosive cyclogenesis -- that's meteorologist speak for rapid intensification -- as it crosses the jet stream right before hitting UK shores. This process often triggers Britain's worst weather disasters. Burkill explained: "When this system crosses the jet and lands on the left exit side, it deepens rapidly. That's why we're highly concerned about Saturday's storm." Scotland to Face 90mph Gusts; Northern England Also at Risk * Scottish coasts could see gusts up to 90mph. * Inland northern areas may experience winds reaching 70mph. * Southeastern England likely to escape major damage. Jim Dale, meteorologist and co-author of Jet Stream Frenzy Brings Triple Storm Threat Over Easter The supercharged jet stream is fueled by clashing cold and warm air masses over the US, creating a conveyor belt that's pushing three storms toward Britain over the next few days. Storm Dave looks set to be the highlight -- or upheaval -- of this weather marathon. Forecasting is tricky due to Dave's stretched-out shape, making it hard to pinpoint exactly where and when the worst winds will hit. Burkill admitted: "It makes it difficult to be precise about the strongest winds' timing and location." More Wintry Weather on the Horizon Good Friday won't offer much relief, as cold air sweeps in, bringing snow showers especially across Scotland. "Colder air is digging in, so expect sleet and snow showers quite regularly," Burkill added. To make matters worse, another storm lurks for Monday, promising to drag the Easter weekend into a full-blown weather washout. Chilly Start Before the Storm Hits Saturday morning will begin cold, with Scottish snow showers, before Storm Dave unleashes its fury in the afternoon.

UK courts Anthropic to expand in London after US defence clash

Keir Starmer's government is trying to tempt Anthropic to expand its presence in the UK, looking to capitalise on the $380bn start-up's fight with the US defence department to woo one of America's top AI groups. Staff at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology have sketched out proposals for the San Francisco-headquartered company, spanning from an office expansion in London to a dual listing, according to multiple people with knowledge of the plans. Downing Street has been supportive of the work, which will be put to Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei when he visits the UK in late May as part of a trip to meet European customers and policymakers, they added. Efforts to persuade the start-up to expand its presence in the UK beyond an existing office in London have stepped up in recent weeks after the US defence department labelled the start-up a supply-chain risk, said two of the people. US President Donald Trump lambasted the "leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic" after the company refused to budge on "red lines" about use of its technology in warfighting. "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL NEVER ALLOW A RADICAL LEFT, WOKE COMPANY TO DICTATE HOW OUR GREAT MILITARY FIGHTS AND WINS WARS!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social at the end of February. A week later, London mayor Sadiq Khan wrote to Amodei pitching the UK capital as a "steadfast" base for the company. "I believe that London can provide a stable, proportionate and pro-innovation environment in which this kind of AI can flourish," he wrote. The move to court Anthropic comes amid a broader push by governments around the world to build "sovereign" AI capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign AI companies. Last month, the UK announced plans to launch a £40mn state-backed research lab for "blue-sky" work in AI, leveraging Britain's research base and scientists to make breakthroughs in science, healthcare and transport. UK officials recognise they lack a homegrown competitor to top US labs and have sought partnerships with those groups. Anthropic currently employs about 200 people in the UK, 60 of them researchers, and last year appointed former prime minister Rishi Sunak as a senior adviser. Last month, rival OpenAI committed to significantly expanding in London, making the city its biggest research hub outside the US. Google has also built its presence in the UK capital since acquiring DeepMind, the AI research lab founded by Demis Hassabis, in 2014. The search giant is putting the finishing touches on a vast, roughly £1bn campus in King's Cross. The UK's efforts come as Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering as early as this year. One person familiar with the government's proposals said "the dream" would be to persuade Anthropic to dual list its shares in the UK and US, but added that was a highly unlikely scenario. "We are in regular dialogue with them as you'd expect," said another government figure. They added that dialogue was "building on" a memorandum of understanding signed last year with Anthropic to work together on boosting scientific progress and building a secure supply chain for AI. Peter Kyle, UK business secretary, told the FT that Anthropic was one of many fast-growing companies he wanted to encourage to invest more in the UK. "I set up the Global Talent Taskforce to assertively get out there and sell all the benefits of investing, innovating and scaling in the UK," he said. Kyle added: "We are in touch with a great many companies from a very wide range of high-growth sectors worldwide. It's wrong to say it's about listing, it's about talent."

AI companies have been busy of late, with Google launching Gemma 4, a set of open AI models, while Open AI has bought a Silicon Valley talkshow to refine its public communication Once upon a time, it was hoped that all AI models would be free -- they'd be focused more on the public good than on making profits. That utopian idea has died a quiet death, but the dream of open source AI tools hasn't gone away. A few days ago Google unveiled Gemma 4, that can be downloaded and shaped by developers using an Apache 2.0 license. Gemma 4's models can handle coding, complex reasoning and real-world tasks. Meta pauses all work with AI recruiting startup Mercor after $10 billion company confirms hacking

Meta has indefinitely suspended all work with Mercor. This comes after the artificial intelligence (AI) data contracting startup valued at $10 billion confirmed a security breach that may have exposed proprietary training data belonging to some of the world's most prominent AI laboratories. According to a WIRED report, two sources confirmed Meta's move and described it as indefinite. The story has created quite an upheaval in the world of AI research; other labs like OpenAI and Anthropic are trying to determine just how serious this breach is for them and whether any of their highly valued private datasets have fallen into the wrong hands. Mercor, the data broker sitting right in the middle of all data agreements between companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, creates specialised datasets by leveraging vast networks of humans and information that these AI companies consider some of their most private IP.ific methods used to train their models.Mercor confirmed the attack in an email sent to staff on March 31. "There was a recent security incident that affected our systems along with thousands of other organizations worldwide," the company wrote, the Wired report noted. The breach could have thousands of victims, though the Mercor incident has drawn particular attention given the sensitivity of the data involved. While Meta has halted work entirely, OpenAI has not stopped its active projects with Mercor but confirmed it is investigating the incident to determine how its proprietary training data may have been exposed. An OpenAI spokesperson told WIRED that the breach "in no way affects OpenAI user data." Meanwhile, Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Contractors staffed on Meta-related projects were not given a direct explanation for the pause. In a Chordus Slack channel, a project lead informed staff that Mercor was "currently reassessing the project scope."Those contractors cannot log billable hours until, and unless, the project resumes, meaning they are effectively out of work. The report cited internal conversations claiming that Mercor is working internally to find alternative projects for those affected.

Billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya to private companies planning to go public: SpaceX, OpenAI and Anthropic IPOs are warning for you, go to ...

Venture capitalist and billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya has now issued a strict warning to private companies considering going public, urging them to move quickly or risk being shut out of capital markets. According to a report by Benzinga, speaking on the All-In podcast, Palihapitiya emphasised that the hrinking investor appetite, geopolitical risks, and uncertainty around artificial general intelligence (AGI) valuations could make late entrants to the IPO cycle vulnerable.Palihapitiya went ahead and compared the upcoming wave of IPOs including SpaceX, OpenAI and Anthropic to a Thanksgiving feast, where early diners get the best portions and those arriving late may find the little left. "The risk increases when you are at the tail end because the risk is that the diners will run out of space... you just can't absorb incrementally trillions of dollars of new demand," he said. He further cautioned that then companies waiting too long could face diminished returns as investors attention and capital are consumed by the first movers. Also, tactical risks, such as geopolitical tensions in Iran and the disruptive influence of AI, could further complicate the IPO landscape.Palihapitiya expects SpaceX to lead the IPO wave and perform strongly, setting the tone for others. The company is reportedly targeting a record $75 billion raise and a valuation of over $2 trillion, which would make it the largest stock market listing in history. "Get the heck out and get public and get your money and fortify your balance sheet ASAP -- the risk builds the further down the IPO chain you're in," he advised.Beyond timing, Palihapitiya highlighted structural concerns tied to AGI. He argued that if AGI is real, the durability of most companies could be minimal, but if it isn't, then the ability of firms to raise hundreds of billions of dollars should be questioned. "Both scenarios cannot be true at the same time," he said.Investors, he noted, are already rotating toward "halo" businesses -- high-asset, low-obsolescence companies -- rather than chasing risky valuations at hundreds of times revenue.

Fatal Miami Double Crash: One Dead, Officer Injured, Driver Arrested in Early Morning Chaos

In the early hours of the morning, a tragic incident in northwest Miami-Dade led to a second crash that left a sheriff's deputy injured and a driver under arrest, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO). The chain of events began just before midnight at 11:55 p.m. on Friday when a civilian vehicle collided with a tree at the intersection of NW 135th Street and NW 57th Avenue in the county's northwest region. The car immediately caught fire upon impact. Fire Rescue units from Miami-Dade responded swiftly to the scene, extinguishing the flames. Unfortunately, they discovered the driver, a man whose age and identity remain undisclosed, had died at the scene. As MDSO officers were setting up roadblocks to investigate the fatal crash, a second incident unfolded around 2:44 a.m. on Saturday, nearly three hours after the initial collision. A sheriff's patrol vehicle was stationed to block a nearby intersection at NW 135th Street and NW 47th Avenue, roughly ten blocks away from the first crash site. Suddenly, another vehicle barreled through the crossing and struck the right side of the police unit. These types of incidents bring to mind past events, such as when a Dodge Charger was captured on video crashing into a patrol car. The driver who collided with the patrol car was apprehended on the spot. This incident shares similarities with the case of Yasmani Jaime Ulloa, 32, who was arrested after a similar occurrence in Miami. Additionally, another crash in Opa-locka recently resulted in injuries under comparable circumstances.

In an interview Thursday with the U.K.'s ITV News, he said carriers will be in an "unknown scenario" if the Strait of Hormuz stays closed for two to three more months, warning 5%-10% of flights in May, June, and July might have to be canceled. By that point, O'Leary added airlines won't be able to choose which flights to cancel, explaining that they will get little advance notice and it would depend on how much jet fuel each airport still has available. "So we will then look around, and we will be trying to ground one or two aircraft and minimize the inconvenience for customers," he said. "But it's going to be difficult. It's going to be challenging." Despite the risk of cancellations, O'Leary said he would "strongly advise" that anyone planning a trip this summer book as soon as possible, before airfares get pricier. In fact, jet fuel prices have soared even higher than gasoline prices have as the Iran war has not only bottled up one-fifth of the world's oil supply but a big chunk of the refining capacity that churns out jet fuel. The U.S isn't immune either, and top airport hubs like Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York have seen the average price for a gallon of jet fuel hit $4.88 per gallon, nearly double compared to the prewar price. As a result, more airlines are hiking fees for checking luggage, and United Airlines is bracing for a prolonged war that sends oil as high as $175 a barrel and is making contingency plans that include reducing capacity. When asked if booking a flight now would be a gamble given the possibility that a flight may not exist this summer, O'Leary replied he doesn't think so. "Life is a gamble," he added. "I think we're looking at maybe the risk to 5 or 10% of cancellations in June or July, but 95-90% of flight will still operate. So I think you're really not taking much of a gamble. I would be much more concerned if you delay your booking, that actually you and your family will be paying much higher prices." O'Leary acknowledged that travelers who face canceled trips wouldn't be able to get refunded as airlines could claim circumstances beyond their control. But he pointed out anyone flying within Europe won't be stranded and is entitled to have airlines reroute a trip or get them back home. "At Ryanair, we have lots of flights on a daily basis. We will re-accommodate you, get you back, get you out, whatever it's going to be," O'Leary vowed. "You might be stuck for a day or two. But if you're staying within Europe, you should be reasonably confident that, A, your original flight will operate and, B, if there is a disruption, bear in mind there'll be far more disruptions this summer from French air traffic controllers not showing up to work." Norway Travel Chaos: Storm Dave and Severe Ferry Delays - News Directory 3

Kyrre Andresen, a spokesperson for Fjord Line, stated that conditions won't allow for sailing due to the incoming storm. Storm Dave has caused widespread travel disruptions across Northern Europe, leading to ferry cancellations in Norway and severe airport and infrastructure chaos in Ireland on April 5, 2026. In Norway, Fjord Line cancelled Sunday ferry services between Hirtshals, Denmark, and Kristiansand, Norway, due to the storm's approach to southern Norway. The 09:00 departure from Kristiansand to Hirtshals and the return trip scheduled for Sunday afternoon were both scrapped. Kyrre Andresen, a spokesperson for Fjord Line, stated that conditions won't allow for sailing due to the incoming storm. While the evening crossing remained scheduled, the company advised passengers to expect delays. The ferry services continuing to Stavanger and Bergen were planned to proceed. Color Line, which operates the same route, monitored the weather closely as the situation changed hourly. A spokesperson for the company, Erik Brynhildsbakken, noted that any decisions regarding cancellations would be posted on their website. Storm Dave was forecast to impact western, southern, and parts of eastern Norway on April 5, 2026. Authorities issued red and orange extreme weather warnings for several regions. Reports indicated an outlook for waves reaching 11 meters in height, contributing to the cancellation of the majority of ferries sailing between Hirtshals and Norway on Sunday. The storm's arrival coincided with the Easter holiday period, leading many travelers to cut their vacations short to avoid the weather system. Traffic disruptions were reported, including significant queues and long wait times for commuters and travelers. In addition to maritime disruptions, warnings were issued regarding extremely slippery road conditions, with predictions of potential multi-hour wait times for travelers on the roads. The storm's impact extended to the British Isles, where the Met Office issued an Amber weather warning. This warning, signifying danger to life, was issued as the storm was expected to bring 90mph winds and snow blizzards over the Easter weekend. In Ireland, Storm Dave caused significant disruption at Dublin Airport, resulting in the cancellation of 15 flights. The storm also triggered widespread power outages and general infrastructure chaos across the region. Storm Dave is part of the 2025-26 European windstorm season, which marks the eleventh year of the continent's coordinated severe weather naming programme. This season has seen a significant shift in how weather systems are named in the Northern Group, consisting of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, which adopted a predetermined list of names for the first time on January 1, 2026. The coordinated naming effort involves multiple partnerships, including the Western Group -- comprising the UK's Met Office, Ireland's Met Éireann, and the Netherlands' KNMI -- and a south-western partnership involving Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The 2025-26 season has already recorded significant events, including Storm Joseph, which reached a low pressure of 939 hPa, and Storm Amy, which produced a wind gust of 139 mph at Folgefonna, Norway.

Panchkula: Long wait for LPG cylinders triggers chaos outside Sector 16 gas agency

A large, frustrated crowd of consumers from Rajiv Colony, Indira Colony and other nearby areas gathered outside a Bharat Gas agency in Sector 16 on Saturday, prompting police deployment to maintain law and order. Many consumers alleged non-delivery of domestic LPG cylinders despite bookings made several days earlier. Some said they had booked cylinders 15 to 20 days ago, but deliveries were still pending, whereas earlier they used to receive them within two to three days. A woman from a nearby colony said her cylinder had been empty since March 20, causing acute inconvenience, but despite booking, she had not received a refill. Another consumer said he had booked a cylinder on March 21 and was given multiple delivery dates, including April 4, but the cylinder was still not delivered. He added that he had even taken leave from work to collect it from the agency. According to available details, the gas agency was delivering cylinders as per its schedule and booking dates. However, many of those gathered outside were not called, as their names were not on the list. When contacted, Jatin Mittal, District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC), Panchkula, said that there was no shortage of stock at the agency. However, he added that strict instructions have been issued to the agency to ensure timely delivery of cylinders and to strengthen the delivery staff.
