Claude Cowork | Anthropic's agentic AI for knowledge work

Chat is a useful resource in many instances, but it's not always the right tool for your needs. At Anthropic, non-technical teams like Marketing and Data started bypassing Claude's chat interface for Claude Code, drawn to its ability to handle complex, multi-step work like building tools or mining data. We observed the same pattern externally. Claude Cowork is the result: the same capability with a simplified experience, designed for where non-technical knowledge work happens.

Moment yobs brawl on packed beach as security guard films chaos erupting

THIS is the shocking moment a mass brawl breaks out at a popular beach as both temperatures and tensions flared on the hottest day of the year. Security guards filmed the chaos as yobs started fighting each other on the packed waterfront in Bournemouth, Dorset, yesterday. Emergency crews, including six police cars, were scrambled to attend the disorder on Wednesday. Shocking footage showed yobs slugging it out in broad daylight as stunned bystanders watched on. A yob in a grey t-shirt appears to throw a number of punches at another youth who is wearing a backpack. The pair were caught on camera grappling before a third yob dressed in black is seen taking a swing at the individual with a backpack. He manages to evade the attack and rushes off as members of the public attempt to de-escalate the situation. A man who appears to be a security guard at a nearby establishment is then seen on video trying to calm down those involved. He manages to separate the individuals at the seaside hotspot shortly before the footage ends. In another video, members of the public could be heard shouting and were seen moving away from the area as the chaos unfolded. Dorset Police later confirmed three people had been arrested for public order related offences. Cops said that those arrested have since been "dealt with appropriately". It is currently unconfirmed who the arrested individuals were. A spokesperson for the force said: "Your local neighbourhood police officers have been out on patrol at a busy Bournemouth beach, where many people have been enjoying the beautiful weather. "Unfortunately, three children were arrested for public order related offences. "They have since been dealt with appropriately. "Bournemouth Police remain committed to tackling antisocial behaviour head-on, whatever the weather, to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe and pleasant time by the sea." It is not the first time chaos has unfolded at the seaside hotspot. Last year, a mass brawl broke out on Bournemouth beach as horrified locals and holiday makers watched on. Topless youths were seen hurling glass at cops in the footage. The terrifying incident which unfolded on a resort pier on June 30 broke out after a fight in the nearby Lower Gardens. The fight had resulted in a teenage girl being injured and rushed to hospital. Social media footage caught the subsequent brawl on film, as shirtless yobs clashed with police.

Apple Joins Anthropic's Project Glasswing to Find Critical Software Vulnerabilities

Apple has joined forces with Anthropic and a group of industry leaders to launch Project Glasswing, a major initiative aimed at securing critical software infrastructure using a new, highly capable artificial intelligence model. The partnership includes companies such as NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Cisco, and CrowdStrike, all working together to deploy Anthropic's unreleased Claude Mythos Preview model for defensive cybersecurity. The formation of Project Glasswing was prompted by the capabilities observed in Mythos Preview, which has shown it can surpass all but the most skilled humans at discovering and exploiting software vulnerabilities. During internal testing, the model identified thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including zero-day flaws, across every major operating system and web browser. For Apple users, this means the AI could be used to proactively scan and harden the codebases of macOS, iOS, and Safari against potential threats. Anthropic is committing up to $100 million in usage credits for the Mythos Preview model across this effort, alongside $4 million in direct donations to open-source security organizations. This defensive push comes as AI coding capability reaches a point where autonomous agents can identify bugs that have survived decades of human review. For example, Mythos Preview uncovered a 27-year-old vulnerability in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old flaw in FFmpeg, a tool widely used to process video. The announcement follows Apple's recent move to embrace autonomous AI in its own development tools. The company lately released Xcode 26.3, which introduced "agentic coding" support for Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's Codex. While Xcode allows developers to use these agents for productivity, Project Glasswing operates on a deeper level, providing Apple's internal security teams with access to the Mythos Preview model for tasks like local vulnerability detection and penetration testing. Anthropic does not plan to make Claude Mythos Preview generally available to the public. Instead, its use is limited to a group of over 40 additional organizations responsible for maintaining critical software infrastructure. The goal is to give cyber defenders a durable advantage before similar capabilities proliferate more widely. In cases where the model identified vulnerabilities in third-party software, such as the Linux kernel, Anthropic worked with maintainers to ensure patches were in place before disclosure. Within the next 90 days, Project Glasswing partners plan to report publicly on what they have learned. This will include practical recommendations for how industry security practices -- such as software update processes and supply-chain security -- should evolve in the AI era. The collaboration brings together major players across the tech industry to address the growing security risks posed by increasingly capable AI systems. Kraken API Opens the Door to Scalable Trading Systems Built for Non‑Stop Markets - Crypto Economy

The rate limit model penalizes immediate order cancellation and rewards strategies that contribute genuine liquidity to the book. Kraken published a technical guide aimed at systematic traders detailing its API capabilities for automated cryptocurrency trading. The document describes the available protocols, the types of strategies the infrastructure supports and the operational considerations that determine performance in production. The exchange offers its API as a solution for those who operate programmatically in markets that run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Kraken guide identifies three main categories of automated strategies. Momentum strategies use real-time price feeds to detect assets in motion and execute orders with disciplined exit logic. Statistical arbitrage and pairs trading strategies exploit mean-reversion relationships between correlated assets, buying the laggard and selling the leader when the spread deviates. The third category corresponds to the programmatic execution of discretionary signals, where the trader retains judgment over the signals but delegates sizing, timing and slippage management to the API. The Kraken infrastructure combines three protocols with differentiated functions. The REST API handles account operations, order placement and request-response flows. WebSocket transmits real-time market data and execution updates over persistent connections, with sequence numbers to detect missed messages. The FIX 4.4 protocol, available for institutional clients, offers session-level guarantees and integration with existing order management systems. A crucial technical aspect is the decay-based rate limit model. Placing and immediately canceling an order consumes significantly more quota than letting that order rest in the book for several seconds before canceling it. Kraken penalizes quote spam and favors strategies that contribute genuine liquidity. The Kraken WebSocket delivers Level 3 order book data to all API users with no restrictions by account tier, configurable depth of up to 1,000 levels, trade ticks with maker/taker designation and OHLC candles across multiple intervals. For those starting development, the UAT environment replicates production endpoints, symbol naming and rate limit behavior, allowing code to be validated before trading with real capital.

US software stocks fall as Anthropic's new AI model revives disruption fears

April 9 (Reuters) - U.S. software shares tumbled on Thursday after Anthropic held back the wide release of a powerful AI model over concerns it could expose hidden cybersecurity vulnerabilities, deepening investor fears about the threat to traditional software firms. Anthropic said earlier this week it would only allow a group of around 40 companies, including Microsoft and Google, access to its "Claude Mythos" model because it has already found thousands of vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser. "If Mythos is that strong and that powerful and it's exposing these vulnerabilities that have been around for years, it just shows one, the weakness of the current software that's out there and two, that AI is still making incredible progress versus legacy software companies," said Michael O'Rourke, chief market strategist at JonesTrading. The S&P 500 Software and Services Index is down nearly 26% this year, including Thursday's 3.1% drop, on worries that rapid progress in AI could hit SaaS (software-as-a-service) companies that sell subscription-based products to clients. Cybersecurity firms Cloudflare, Okta, CrowdStrike and SentinelOne dropped between 4.7% and 7.7% in morning trade. Zscaler was among the biggest decliners on the S&P 500, down 8.6%. Brokerage BTIG downgraded the stock to "neutral" from "buy", citing concerns over demand and potential competition. "We're getting back to being concerned about the prior software-specific concerns stemming from AI and private credit that are coming back to the fore," said Steve Sosnick, chief market analyst at Interactive Brokers. Enterprise software developer Atlassian, human resources software provider Workday, Photoshop software maker Adobe, enterprise cloud firm Salesforce and TurboTax-parent Intuit dropped between 3.7% and 6.8%. Anthropic Opens Claude Cowork AI Agent to All Paid Enterprise Plans

Anthropic's autonomous AI assistant Claude Cowork is now generally available across all paid subscription tiers, the company announced April 9. The expansion comes with a suite of enterprise controls designed for company-wide deployment. The rollout targets organizations looking to move beyond individual AI chat interactions toward delegating entire workflows to autonomous agents. According to Anthropic, non-engineering teams -- operations, marketing, finance, and legal -- now account for the majority of Cowork usage within early enterprise adopters. The enterprise update introduces several governance features that IT departments have been requesting. Role-based access controls let admins organize users into groups via SCIM integration with identity providers, then define which Claude capabilities each group can access. Teams can start with limited rollouts and expand as adoption grows. Group spend limits address the unpredictable cost problem that's plagued enterprise AI adoption. Admins set per-team budgets from a central console rather than discovering overruns after the fact. On the observability side, Cowork activity now feeds into admin dashboards and a new Analytics API. The API exposes per-user activity, skill invocations, connector usage, and daily/weekly/monthly active user metrics. OpenTelemetry support -- available on Team and Enterprise plans -- emits events for tool calls, file modifications, and whether AI-initiated actions received manual or automatic approval. These events plug into standard SIEM pipelines like Splunk and Cribl. Zoom launched an MCP connector alongside the announcement, bringing meeting summaries, action items, and transcripts directly into Cowork workflows. The integration lets teams turn meeting content into automated follow-up tasks without manual copy-pasting. Admins also gain granular control over connector permissions -- enabling read access while blocking write operations, for instance -- applied organization-wide from the admin console. Anthropic highlighted three early adopters. Zapier connected Cowork to their internal database, Slack, and Jira to surface engineering bottlenecks, generating dashboards and prioritized roadmaps that product teams then replicated. Jamf compressed a seven-facet performance review into a 45-minute guided self-evaluation, then extended the approach to vendor reviews and incident response. Venture firm Airtree built board prep workflows pulling from portfolio company Drive folders, Slack updates, and competitor news. The pattern Anthropic describes -- teams delegating peripheral work rather than core functions -- suggests organizations are using Cowork for the coordination overhead that surrounds critical tasks rather than the tasks themselves. Project updates, research compilation, and collaboration decks are the sweet spot. Cowork access starts at the Pro tier ($20/month) with higher usage limits on Max plans ($100/month for 5x usage, $200/month for 20x). Enterprise pricing remains custom. The product runs within an isolated virtual machine for security and operates through the Claude Desktop app on macOS and Windows. The enterprise controls arrive roughly two months after Cowork's Windows launch in February and scheduled tasks functionality in late February. Anthropic's computer use API, which enables screen interaction for more complex automation, rolled out in late March.

'Mythos' Disruption: Cloudflare, Palantir Lead Up To 12% Software Rout As Anthropic Shifts AI Stakes

Software stocks plunge on Anthropic AI threat. Image: NDTV Profit Stocks of software companies in the US took a hit after Anthropic held back on a large-scale release of its new and powerful AI model 'Claude Mythos' over fears that it could expose hidden cybersecurity vulnerablities. The Dario Amodei led company had said that it would only let a selected bunch of around 40 companies, including Microsoft and Google, access the AI model. Of all the companies, Cloudflare Inc.'s stock plunged the lowest, down nearly 12%, to around $186 in the Nasdaq Composite index. Other cybersecurity stocks such as CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. and SentinelOne dropped over 6% and 5% each. Zscaler's stock also saw a sharp fall by 9.19% to $124.73. Besides this, stock of major chipmaker Palantir Technologies Inc. was down over 6% to $132.17. Other key tech stocks in the S&P 500 index such as Adobe Inc., Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., and Accenture also slipped. Adobe fell over 4% to nearly $229, Cognizant was down by 3.26% to $59, and Accenture slid over 5% to around $183 ALSO READ: TCS Set To Announce Anthropic Partnership Soon As AI Push Accelerates Earlier this week, Anthropic had stated that Mythos has already found thousands of vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser, triggering jitters around software companies. "If Mythos is that strong and that powerful and it's exposing these vulnerabilities that have been around for years, it just shows one, the weakness of the current software that's out there and two, that AI is still making incredible progress versus legacy software companies," Michael O'Rourke, chief market strategist at JonesTrading was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters. The S&P 500 Software and Services Index, which dropped 3.4% on Thursday, is down close to 26% this year. 'Mythos' Disruption: Cloudflare, Palantir Lead Up To 12% Software Rout As Anthropic Shifts AI Stakes

Anthropic says its own new model is too dangerous for the public -- but not these Big Tech companies

The news touched off a cybersecurity panic and accusations of elitism. Anthropic is sending out a warning that its artificial intelligence model is sophisticated enough to undo decades of research. The company operates Claude, the AI chatbot that has been ripped off and turned into a free, public model, and is hoping to get together with a consortium of tech companies to button up the security measures ahead of its release. 'It has found vulnerabilities, and in some cases crafted exploits.' Anthropic's Mythos model of Claude AI will only be available to 40 select companies to be used for the power of good, the company claims. It represents "the starting point for what we think will be an industry change point, or reckoning, with what needs to happen now," said Logan Graham, head of Anthropic's vulnerability testing team. The company fears that its new AI model is so good at finding cracks in cybersecurity that it must only be shared with companies it deems capable and responsible enough to prepare for possible attacks when Mythos goes public. "This model is good at finding vulnerabilities that would be well understood and findable by security researchers," Graham said. "At the same time, it has found vulnerabilities, and in some cases crafted exploits, sophisticated enough that they were both missed by literally decades of security researchers, as well as all the automated tools designed to find them." Anthropic will reportedly commit up to $100 million in credits for the project, meaning the amount of money it would typically charge for such a volume of its chatbot's usage. Labeled Project Glasswing, the initiative to shore up cybersecurity will grant Mythos access to handpicked companies chosen largely from Big Tech like Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft. The group is rounded out by internet infrastructure and cybersecurity giants like Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Nvidia, and Palo Alto Networks, along with financial titan JPMorgan Chase and key open-source nonprofit the Linux Foundation. This is not the first time an AI company has warned its product is too dangerous for the public, and looking back, readers can gauge whether or not Claude may be as dangerous as its creators purport it to be. In 2019, OpenAI sent out a warning ahead of its release of GPT-2, claiming that its capabilities -- now vastly eclipsed by later models -- could be used to mass-produce propaganda or misleading text. As Wired reported at the time, OpenAI said GPT-2 was too risky to be released to the general public. Claude has been in the news for alleged missteps, leaks, and accidental postings throughout the past year, and while it may not be a household name yet, it has raced its way through the tech sector as a go-to for "agentic" work building software, apps, and even companies. In addition to its model being open-sourced and used by the general public for free, the company has been noted for "accidental" postings of its own code. Anthropic "accidentally uploaded a file to a public repository that's just meant to help developers understand how to use their product" and "exposed some of the source code of Claude," reporter Aaron Holmes explained recently. Proprietary information was further leaked in another alleged accidental posting, this time through a blog draft that revealed "internal source code." The company seems poised for consistent marketing battles, both willing and unwilling, from its high-stakes lawsuit against the federal government labeling it a supply chain risk to the blowback it has received from putting a woman closely linked to the cultish Effective Altruism movement in charge of its AI's "Constitution." Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview Aims To Find Dangerous Software Bugs

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, says it is testing a powerful new AI system that can spot serious weaknesses in software. That matters because software bugs not only prevent proper operation of a system, they let hackers break into computers, steal data, or shut down important systems. Anthropic says its new model, called Claude Mythos Preview, is much better than earlier systems at finding those weak spots. Most people have never heard of Mythos because Anthropic has not released it widely. Think of it as a test version of Claude that is far better at code and bug hunting. Anthropic says Mythos can help find hidden flaws in operating systems, browsers and other core software that much of the world relies on. This is especially important when it comes to critical open source libraries and software that users are increasingly becoming dependent on. Recently there has been a string of so-called "supply chain" attacks in which attackers have compromised critical open source libraries that are in turn used by other systems. Anthropic says Mythos has already helped uncover previously unknown vulnerabilities, including flaws in major software systems. Some of those bugs could have been used in real attacks if they had stayed hidden. What is Project Glasswing? Anthropic is being careful with Mythos. Instead of opening it to everyone, the company has placed it inside a locked down pilot called Project Glasswing. Project Glasswing is Anthropic's program for giving the tool to a small group of trusted partners first. The company aims to first let security teams, infrastructure providers and open source maintainers use the model to find problems before criminals do. The reason for Anthropic's caution is that it is important to have the people fixing software get this tool before the people trying to break software get something similar. If a model gets very good at finding software flaws, it could help defenders patch systems faster. But it could just as easily help attackers figure out where to hit. Picture a metal detector that can find weak points inside the beams of a bridge. In the hands of engineers, that tool helps prevent disaster. In the hands of a saboteur, it shows exactly where to attack. Anthropic seems to believe Mythos is strong enough that it cannot be treated like a normal public release. It suggests top AI companies now think some models could affect real world cybersecurity in a serious way. That puts the company in a difficult position. A better AI model sounds exciting when it writes emails faster or helps a programmer clean up code. It sounds far less harmless when it can uncover the kinds of flaws hackers spend years trying to find. Project Glasswing is built around the idea that people defending important systems should see this first. The Shift in AI's Central Position for Code In the past, AI companies mostly talked about chat quality, benchmark scores and workplace productivity. Anthropic is talking about restricted access, risk reports, government briefings and cybersecurity partnerships. The company sees Mythos and the more sophisticated uses of Claude as a sensitive system with real security consequences. There is another reason this story has drawn attention. Reports about Mythos started circulating before Anthropic fully explained the project in public. That gave the rollout a hush around it and raised harder questions about how companies should handle advanced AI systems that may help defenders and attackers at the same time. Anthropic sent the message that Mythos is powerful, but it is not for everyone. If an AI company feels the need to limit access to a model because it may uncover dangerous vulnerabilities too effectively, then AI has moved into new territory. Will we start seeing powerful models controlled with export or other restrictions? That is why Project Glasswing may end up mattering more than Claude Mythos Preview as a standalone label. Models will keep getting smarter. The market almost guarantees that. The real contest will sit in the operating model around them including who gets access, who gets warned, who patches first, who audits the redactions and who bears the cost when private labs discover public weaknesses. Anthropic is betting that a closed circle of selected companies will buy the rest of the ecosystem time. It may be right. Or it might be that the AI industry is simply moving too fast to provide effective layers of control. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

xAI puts water recycling project on hold, drawing concerns

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- xAI says it is still committed to building a wastewater recycling plant to cool its supercomputer in southwest Memphis, but the project is on hold for the moment. Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company sent out a statement on its X account early Thursday after local media reported the project was paused: "xAI is committed to building a state-of-the-art water recycling plant in Memphis. This plant will protect billions of gallons of water each year. The team is currently prioritizing other, more immediate projects at the site, but our plans to build the water plant have not changed." Wednesday afternoon, a company spokesperson sent a response to WREG saying, "This story is false." xAI held a groundbreaking in October for the $80 million plant, which would use up to 13 million gallons a day of recycled wastewater from a nearby treatment plant to cool the servers at its Colossus facility, rather than relying on drinking water from the region's aquifer. "This project is going to help us to preserve five billion gallons of water each and every year, and that is going to preserve the clean drinking water future for this community for generations to come," said Doug McGowen, president and CEO of MLGW, back in October. News that the project might be delayed drew a response from the community group Protect Our Aquifer, which called for the city to hold a public hearing, and for TVA and the Greater Memphis Chamber to put pressure on the company. "This project was never optional," Protect Our Aquifer wrote in a news release. "It was a core commitment tied to protecting the Memphis Sand Aquifer and the drinking water infrastructure for the residents of 38109."

Newly created Polymarket accounts bet big on US-Iran ceasefire in hours before Trump's announcement

NEW YORK (AP) -- Sources from Associated Press say that a group of new accounts on the prediction market Polymarket made highly specific, well-timed bets on whether the U.S. and Iran would reach a ceasefire on April 7, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in profits for these new customers. These bets were made even though, in the hours before a two-week ceasefire was announced on Tuesday, President Donald Trump's rhetoric had escalated sharply and there were few signals that a ceasefire deal was imminent. Early in the day Trump had issued a warning on social media that "a whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran did not meet his demand to open the Strait of Hormuz by his 8 p.m. ET deadline. An analysis of publicly available blockchain data from Polymarket, using the crypto analytics platform Dune, shows that at least 50 accounts, or wallets, placed substantial "Yes" bets Tuesday before Trump announced the ceasefire in a Truth Social post at around 6:30 pm ET. These were the first bets made by these particular wallets. One of these wallets, created Tuesday around 10 am ET, placed roughly $72,000 in bets at an average price of 8.8 cents. The buy-in for each betting event ranges from $0 to $1 each, reflecting a 0% to 100% chance of what users think could happen. This Polymarket user then cashed out for a profit of $200,000. Another, which joined the platform on April 6 and traded on this exact event, shows a win of $125,500. Another wallet, created 12 minutes before Trump's post, made $31,908 of "Yes" bets at 33.7 cents, and is estimated to have earned a profit of $48,500. The higher price for "Yes" at that time may have reflected the efforts late Tuesday by the government of Pakistan to get Trump to extend his deadline by two weeks. There is also the possibility that these individual Polymarket users placed their bets expecting Trump to back down, given his habit during his second term to make bold threats only to retreat -- a phenomenon his critics have derided as "Trump Always Chickens Out," or TACO. While some users took handsome profits, others must wait for payouts because Polymarket has labeled the April 7 Iran-U.S. ceasefire contract as "disputed," given that Iran was still placing restrictions on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and missile attacks in the region continued. That dispute could take 48 hours to resolve. Public blockchain data cannot identify who controls the new wallets. Polymarket uses proxy smart contract wallets, meaning a single user can create multiple accounts. Only Polymarket has the internal data needed to determine whether these were new users or existing users opening additional accounts. Polymarket did not respond to a request for comment. Rep. Blake Moore, R-Utah, who has introduced legislation to regulate prediction markets, released a statement Wednesday saying: "It's highly unlikely that these are good-faith trades; it's much more likely that these are insiders with access to information ahead of the public. Without some kind of restrictions, there is nothing stopping government or military officials from profiting from their positions." The trading pattern of newly created Polymarket accounts placing strategic, well-timed bets mirrors earlier episodes on the platform. Newly created accounts placed large wagers hours before the January capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and made hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit. Similar clusters of accounts have also repeatedly profited from well-timed bets on military actions involving Iran. Such bets have repeatedly raised questions from the public as well as members of Congress about whether some traders are using inside information to profit in these prediction markets. Bipartisan groups of senators as well as representatives have introduced legislation that would broaden the definition of insider trading to include prediction markets. Even the two biggest platforms in the industry, Kalshi and Polymarket, have said they see a need to broaden the definition of insider trading on their platforms. "This is why these markets need regulation," said Todd Philips, a professor at Georgia State University who has written on prediction markets and the industry's regulations. "We can't have people trading with inside information and expect other traders are going to be OK being in these markets."

Anthropic scales up with enterprise features for Claude Cowork and Managed Agents - 9to5Mac

Claude Cowork, available on macOS, is losing the "research preview" label today as Anthropic introduces enterprise capabilities. Separately, Anthropic is reclaiming the AI agent narrative with Claude Managed Agents. Anthropic introduced Claude Cowork three months ago as a research preview. Since then, the ability to let Claude manage workflows on the Mac has only matured. Starting today, Claude Cowork includes six features built especially for enterprise use: You can learn more about each feature in the company's announcement post. Anthropic says Claude Cowork for macOS and Windows is now generally available for all paid subscribers. Meanwhile, Anthropic has a new public beta tool called Claude Managed Agents. Managed Agents are "a suite of composable APIs for building and deploying cloud-hosted agents at scale," the company says. Until now, building agents meant spending development cycles on secure infrastructure, state management, permissioning, and reworking your agent loops for every model upgrade. Managed Agents pairs an agent harness tuned for performance with production infrastructure to go from prototype to launch in days rather than months. Companies like Notion, Asana, and Sentry have already used Managed Agents to create new solutions with Claude. Now the new tool is available on the Claude Platform for all builders. Both developments follow the introduction of Claude Mythos Preview and Project Glasswing. Anthropic isn't releasing its most powerful AI model that it announced this week. Instead, it's working with companies, including Apple, to use Mythos as a cybersecurity tool for discovering and resolving software vulnerabilities.

Vandenberg rocket launch today. Where to see SpaceX liftoff

Less than an hour before the Artemis II astronauts are due to land near California, SpaceX could launch a rocket about 200 miles north. Less than an hour before the Artemis II astronauts are due to splash down off the coast of San Diego, California, SpaceX could launch a rocket about 200 miles north. A Falcon 9 rocket is due to get off the ground Friday, April 10 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County. Its mission? Deploy SpaceX's Starlink broadband internet satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch window is due to open shortly before the four Artemis II astronauts are due to return from a 10-day mission around the moon and make a water landing in the Pacific Ocean. Interested in catching a sight of the launch? Plenty of nearby spots are popular among spectators. Just keep in mind that postponements due to weather or issues with rockets are common with spaceflight. Check back with the VC Star for any updates on the impending launch. In the meantime, here's what to know about the upcoming SpaceX rocket launch from Vandenberg in Santa Barbara County, as well as where to watch it. Is there a rocket launch today? Next mission from Vandenberg in California SpaceX is working toward a Friday, April 10, launch from Southern California, with a four-hour launch window opening at 7:39 p.m. PT. A Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory suggests a backup opportunity is available the next day if the launch were to be postponed. Where is the next launch from California? What to know about trajectory The launch will take place from Space Launch Complex 4-East (SLC-4E) at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County. As has become typical in 2026, the rocket will fly at a southern trajectory. What is launching from Vandenberg? SpaceX to deploy Starlink satellites SpaceX will launch its famous two-stage 230-foot Falcon 9 rocket, one of the world's most active, to deliver 25 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, an altitude nearer Earth's atmosphere where they're able to circle the planet quickly. Where to watch California rocket launches in Santa Barbara County Because Vandenberg is an active military base, the launch complex does not host public viewings of launches. But if conditions are clear, rocket launches from the Vandenberg Space Force Base can be viewed from several locations as far as Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Space Launch Schedule, a website dedicated to tracking upcoming rocket launches, provided a list of places in Santa Barbara County in California to catch the launch in person: * 13th Street and Arguello Boulevard, a public site with the closest views of SpaceX launches * Floradale Avenue and West Ocean Avenue, officially designated as the "viewing site for SLC-6" (space launch complex-6) * Renwick Avenue and West Ocean Avenue, another intersection close to the base where spectators can park * Santa Lucia Canyon Road and Victory Road, provides a partial view of Complex 4. The city of Lompoc in Santa Barbara County is filled with places to catch a rocket launch. The city's tourism bureau, Explore Lompoc, maintains this list with additional viewing locations: * Ocean Park, 6851 Ocean Park Road, Lompoc, which, while it doesn't have a view of the launch pad itself, is located only four miles from the launch site and provides a good vantage to see rockets get off the ground. Parking is limited, and law enforcement will close the road to the beach once parking is full. * Allan Hancock College, 1 Hancock Drive, Lompoc, a community college located nine miles from the launch site where the launch pad and rocket's tip can be seen before liftoff. * Riverbend Park, N A Street and McLaughlin Road, Lompoc, located within 10 miles of the launch site, is filled with large fields for activities or for spectators to set up chairs. * Surf Beach on Ocean Avenue, one of the closest and most popular places to watch rocket launches near Lompoc, as long as it's open and accessible. But a word of caution: There is an active train track, the Amtrak Surf Station, that visitors must cross. While trains don't run during launch windows, the vehicles could start up again with little warning if a liftoff is scrubbed. Where to watch California rocket launches in Ventura County Visit Ventura, the tourism bureau in Ventura County, provided a list to the USA TODAY Network of suggested locations to see a rocket launch from the county: * Ventura Pier, 750 E. Harbor Blvd, is known as the oldest pier in all of California. * Emma Wood State Beach, located on the Santa Barbara Channel south of U.S. 101. * Serra Cross Park at Grant Park, located just above San Buenaventura City Hall, 501 Poli St., Ventura, offers a panoramic seascape view. * San Buenaventura State Beach, 901 San Pedro St., Ventura, located adjacent to the Ventura Pier. * Cemetery Memorial Park, Main Street and South Crimea Street, Ventura Where to watch California rocket launches in San Luis Obispo County SLO CAL, a countywide destination marketing and management organization, maintains a list of its recommended best locations to watch a rocket launch in San Luis Obispo County to the north of the launch site: * Avila Beach, located off U.S. 101, has a variety of restaurants and shops for those looking to make a day of their rocket-viewing plans. * Pismo Beach, a city with a vibrant downtown stretch located just 38 miles away from Vandenberg * Shell Beach, a neighborhood in Pismo Beach that is home to several parks, including Eldwayen Ocean Park and Margo Dodd Park, both on Ocean Boulevard; and Dinosaur Caves Park (2701 Price St.) that are mostly dog-friendly and open to the public * Oceano Dunes, the closest place to view launches from the county with open spaces along the ocean allowing full visibility of the sky * Morro Strand State Beach, a three-mile stretch between the coastal city Morro Bay and the town of Cayucos. Cayucos' south-facing beaches should have great views of Vandenberg. Other cities in California where rockets may be visible Other cities in California where you might glimpse the Falcon 9 rocket soaring overhead - particularly after sunset and before sunrise - as it climbs into the sky on a southern trajectory include: * Long Beach, a city popular with tourists known for its waterfront attractions, located about 180 south of the launch site along the southern coast of California * Lake Forest, located about 200 miles south of the launch site along the southern coast of California * San Diego, located about 280 miles south of the launch site along the southern coast of California * Merced, located more than 200 miles north of Vandenberg in the San Joaquin Valley Will there be sonic booms? Residents of Santa Barbara County, San Luis Obispo County and Ventura County often stand to be the most likely to hear sonic booms, SpaceX said. The sonic booms - brief, thunder-like noises that are often heard from the ground when a spacecraft or aircraft travels faster than the speed of sound - could last for up to 10 minutes after liftoff, Vandenberg has added. "Areas local to Vandenberg Space Force Base will hear the initial low rumble of take-off," Vandenberg has also said. What to know about booster re-entry Following the launch, the Falcon 9 rocket's booster will aim to land on a SpaceX drone ship, nicknamed "Of Course I Still Love You," in the Pacific Ocean. This allows for SpaceX personnel to recover the booster so it can be reused in future spaceflights. Does Elon Musk own SpaceX? What to know about rocket company SpaceX is the commercial spaceflight company that billionaire Elon Musk, the world's richest man, founded in 2002 and leads as the CEO. SpaceX is headquartered at Starbase in South Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border. The site, which is where SpaceX has been conducting routine flight tests of its 400-foot megarocket known as Starship, was recently voted by residents to become its own city. As a major government contractor, SpaceX serves as the launch service provider for a variety of government missions both civil and military. For the Department of Defense, SpaceX's Falcon 9 helps launch classified satellites and other payloads into space. And for NASA, Falcon 9 most often helps propel astronauts to the International Space Station on SpaceX's Dragon crew capsule - the only U.S vehicle capable of carrying NASA astronauts to orbit. What is Starlink? Starlink is SpaceX's internet satellite business. With more than 10,000 satellites in its growing orbital constellation, Starlink has become a lucrative part of Musk's business empire, serving millions of customers around the world. SpaceX, which bills itself as the only satellite internet provider with its own reusable rocket capable of deploying the technology, has spent years delivering the satellites to orbit with a regular cadence of rocket launches from Florida and California. Starlink satellites operate from low-Earth orbit, about 341 miles up, which is much closer to Earth's atmosphere than other satellites. That not only allows Starlink satellites to offer high connection speeds than satellites further out in space, but to reach rural areas and regions where internet service is not readily accessible. What is the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California? The Vandenberg Space Force Base is a rocket launch site in Santa Barbara County in Southern California. Established in 1941, the site was previously known as the Vandenberg Air Force Base. Though it's a military base, the site also hosts both civil and commercial space launches for entities like NASA and SpaceX. Space Launch Delta 30, a unit of Space Force, is responsible for managing the launch operations at Vandenberg, as well as the missile tests that take place at the base. Rift between Pentagon and Anthropic opens doors for smaller AI players

Small defense industry artificial intelligence firms are now able to find new opportunities with the military after the breakdown of relations between the Department of Defense (DoD) and AI firm Anthropic. The Pentagon had blacklisted Anthropic following the company's refusal to allow the military to use AI chatbot Claude for U.S. surveillance or autonomous weapons. While this blocked the company from certain contracts, Anthropic got a reprieve from a federal court. A federal judge blocked the blacklisting, nevertheless, the souring of relations has been seen as an opportunity for other AI companies. Defense-focused AI companies like Smack Technologies and EdgeRunner AI say they have experienced a shift in interest that would have been unimaginable just months ago. They have received a surge of overtures about possible contracts and meeting requests and been approached by investors who previously showed no interest. READ: Pentagon clashes with Anthropic over military AI use safeguards (January 30, 2026) "We've seen a massive increase in demand from customers and the government to get AI solutions fielded since Anthropic was declared a supply-chain risk," said Tyler Sweatt, CEO of Second Front, a company that helps technology firms meet the requirements needed to operate on secure Pentagon networks. "Our customers are turning to us as the Pentagon turns to them to deploy quickly in the wake of the Anthropic blowup." Andrew Markoff, co-founder and chief executive of the 19-person startup based in El Segundo, California, said that ever since Anthropic was designated a "supply chain risk" by the Pentagon in March, and the two sides became embroiled in a lawsuit, the military has expressed increasing interest in AI startups like Smack Technologies, saying, "We want more, we want demos, let's talk about how we can move faster." READ: US judge gives Anthropic reprieve from Pentagon blacklisting (March 27, 2026) Tyler Saltsman, co-founder and chief executive of EdgeRunner AI, described a similar experience. His company had been waiting more than a year for a Space Force contract to clear the Pentagon's procurement machinery, and it was signed within weeks after the Anthropic situation. "I can't prove that the Anthropic drama sped this up," Saltsman said, "but I have a sneaky suspicion it did." "The Pentagon will continue to rapidly deploy frontier AI capabilities to the warfighter through strong industry partnerships across all classification levels," a Pentagon official said. A Pentagon technologist previously told Reuters that the falling-out with Anthropic, and the realization that the Defense Department was heavily dependent on one AI provider, forced the department to diversify AI providers.

LangChain Launches Deep Agents Deploy as Open-Source Alternative to Anthropic

LangChain dropped Deep Agents Deploy into beta today, positioning the open-source framework as a direct shot at Anthropic's recently launched Claude Managed Agents. The pitch is straightforward: deploy production-ready AI agents without locking your data into a proprietary system. The timing isn't coincidental. Anthropic's managed agent offering has gained traction since launch, but LangChain is betting developers will pay attention to one critical difference -- who owns the memory. Here's the problem LangChain is addressing: agent harnesses are fundamentally tied to memory management. When that harness sits behind a closed API, so does every interaction your agent learns from. Consider an SDR agent that improves through customer interactions. Under a proprietary system, switching providers means wiping that accumulated knowledge. For customer-facing applications, the stakes multiply -- you're essentially handing your data flywheel to someone else's infrastructure. Deep Agents Deploy stores memory in standard formats (AGENTS.md files and skills) with direct API access. Self-hosted deployments keep everything in your databases. The command bundles several components into a single deployment: Model flexibility spans OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Azure, Bedrock, Fireworks, and Ollama. Sandbox integrations include Daytona, Runloop, Modal, and LangSmith Sandboxes. The deployment spins up 30+ endpoints covering MCP for tool calls, A2A for multi-agent setups, and human-in-the-loop guardrails. This builds on momentum from the past month. LangChain released the core Deep Agents library on March 15, followed by a major update on April 3 that restructured how developers build agent systems. Version 0.5 landed just two days ago with additional refinements. LangChain is leaning hard into open standards. The harness itself carries an MIT license with Python and TypeScript implementations. AGENTS.md provides standardized agent instructions. Agent Skills handle specialized knowledge through markdown files and executable scripts. Agents expose themselves via MCP, A2A, and Agent Protocol -- all open specifications. The explicit goal: let developers swap model providers without the migration nightmare that's plagued teams moving between OpenAI and Anthropic. The crypto-AI intersection has seen increasing interest in agent frameworks, though Deep Agents itself isn't blockchain-native. The broader implications matter for any team building autonomous systems where data sovereignty is non-negotiable. LangChain's bet is that the convenience of managed services won't outweigh the long-term cost of vendor lock-in. Whether developers agree will show up in adoption numbers over the coming months. Documentation and deployment guides are live at LangChain's developer portal.
